Indescribable. That's the only word that came to mind when I was trying to figure out how I'd describe Black Rock City. The random snapshots here are just totally inadequate to describe what this city - and the Burning Man event is all about. They don't even begin to capture the breadth and scope, or the color and energy that you see and feel as you first enter the city. It springs up from a barren desert lakebed, and in a few days becomes the third largest city in Pershing/Washoe county, complete with a street and power grid, fire and police services, three radio stations, newspaper, wireless internet, bookmobile, recycling center, bars, neon lights befitting a Nevada city of this size, and of course, artwork.

The visual impression I got when I arrived was that I had walked into a crazy cross between a refugee camp, theme park, Halloween party, and a Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome movie set.
