These are a subset of the pictures I took on a rafting trip down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. We signed on with a commercial rafting company called Outdoors Unlimited , which offers three trip length options - an Upper Canyon, Lower Canyon, or Total Canyon trip. We opted for the Upper Canyon trip, which starts at Lees Ferry below Lake Powell and finishes at Phantom Ranch with a hike up the. Bright Angel Trail to the south rim.
This turned out to be a good choice of season - both on the trip out and back from Phoenix, and in the Grand Canyon itself there were a lot of plants in full bloom. We also lucked out temperature wise. The first couple of days on the river were probably in the 90's, but on our hike out, it had cooled to the point that we got hail mixed with rain, and got a little snow on the rim of the canyon that night.
Most of these pictures were taken with a Canon SD850IS digital camera. However, I reduced the resolution of the big pictures by a factor of ten so they will load in a reasonable amount of time. If you would like the full resolution versions of these pictures for printing (they are ten times the size of the pictures I put here) send me email at allenbt@biathlon.net.
