Summer Biathlon

August 05, 2001

This page updated 28 August 2001

This Summer Biathlon was organized by Allen Takahashi in conjunction with Auburn Ski Club. The race took placeat Auburn Ski Club lodge not far from Truckee, California at an altitude of 7000 feet. The weather was gorgeous - no wind, temperatures in the low eighties, clear and dry. Thirty four biathletes braved traffic from Hot August Nights to run the course, and many stayed for the post race shoot-off, food, and awards ceremony. The results are posted here.

Because I did so much business travel just prior to this race which kept me from doing a good job of organizing, this race would not have come off if not for the help of many volunteers/racers who were tagged at the last moment. Thanks to Sally for contacting the juniors, doing registration, and a myrid of other chores, Larry and Frank for helping with range set up and duties, Tom and Mary Kay for doing much of the coaching in the range and taking care of the rifles after the race, Dave who helped food preparation for after the race, all of the match racers who helped with the range, those of you who stayed to help clean up, and those who helped with the many chores that I've forgotten to mention or never saw! The race would not have come off without all of your help and participation. And a thanks to our sponsors - Marlin Rifles, and Federal Ammunition, and Auburn Ski Club.

The following pictures were taken with a Nikon digital camera. Your computer monitor color depth needs to be set to thousands for the colors to be even close. This page will take 2-3 minutes to load at 14.4 K baud. Click on a picture to see the full-sized version. By the way, if you run Internet Explorer on Windows 3.1, I've had some problems with pictures not coming up properly.
